Youth Art Exhibit opens at Nemeth Art Center

The Nemeth Art Center, in partnership with the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), is hosting a Youth Art Exhibit in Park Rapids.

Up to 17 artists are involved with the project, representing the communities of Barnesville, East Grand Forks, Lake Park, Menahga, Nevis, Park Rapids and Sebeka.

The exhibit opened Friday and runs through July 1. An opening reception is Saturday, June 10 from 4:30 to 7 p.m., with the award ceremony taking place around 6 p.m.

MCAD will award the top junior participant a $3,400 scholarship for its pre-summer college session. The scholarship includes tuition, full room and board, supplies and three college credits for the summer session, which runs July 9 through July 30.

In addition to the MCAD scholarship, prizes will be awarded to the top three artists.

Applications were open to 15- to 18-year-old youth residing in Class A Sections 6 and 8 school districts. Tribal and home-schooled teens were also eligible to apply.

The Nemeth Art Center is open Thursdays through Saturdays, May through September. It's located at 301 Court Ave., Park Rapids.
