Library hosting 'Growing Up Girls' symposium
"Growing Up Girls," the second in a series of casual symposiums at the Park Rapids Area Library, is slated for Sunday, April 9.
The public is invited to join an "updated, old-fashioned Sunday visit," says librarian Jodi Schultz. "With a 75-year age span between panelists, we can expect a variety of experiences and perspectives."
The event will run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the library.
The first symposium, "The Sisterhood of Seniors," took place in mid-January. Schultz launched the "casual conversations" to engage diverse community members. She calls it "Chatting in Real Time."
"I hope this event will provide opportunities to connect with others, to view the world through a different lens and to expand our understanding of history and society in relation to other people's experiences," she said.
The "Growing up Girls" panel consists of six girls and women from Park Rapids and neighboring communities ranging in age from 11 years old to 86 years old. Each panelist has been invited to share her unique perspective.
Through conversation, Schultz hopes they'll get to know the other panelists as individuals "and in hearing their stories, discover how their lives have been the same as yours, and how they've been different."
Future panel discussions will involve different focus groups and topics. Schultz welcomes input for future symposiums. Ideally, the library will host three of four sessions in a year, she said. Schultz can be reached at the 732-4966 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
