Young writers invited to submit contest entries
The Park Rapids Area Library announces the fifth annual Young Adult Writing Contest, sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Students in Park Rapids, Nevis, Menahga and Laporte as well as home-schooled students in the area are invited to submit a short story, maximum 500 words in length, beginning with the sentence "When his heartbeat returned to normal...."
Contest entries are divided into two categories - students in 7th through 9th grades and students in 10th through 12th grades.
Every student entering the contest will be given $2 in Book Sale Bucks from Friends of the Library, to be used like cash to purchase books at the Friends of the Library Book Sales.
A first place prize of $30 in Park Rapids Chamber Bucks will be awarded to the winning entry in each category, and second place will be awarded $20.
In addition, the winning entries will also be published in the Park Rapids Enterprise. Entries must be typed, (double spaced) and submitted to the library by the deadline of Friday, Feb. 22.
Winners will be announced Friday, March 1.
Names should not be included on the typed entry, but a number will be assigned to each entry when received at the library, so that judges will not know who the authors are.
If students would prefer, entries may be e-mailed to email@example.com. These should be typed in Microsoft Word and sent as an attachment.
The student's name, grade level and phone number should be included in the body of the e-mail. For questions call the Park Rapids Area Library at 732-4966 and ask for Nancy.
