Wrestlers split dual bouts with EGF, TRF

Three forfeit wins and two victories in the final five matches rallied the Park Rapids wrestling team to a 34-24 win over East Grand Forks in the first match of a triangular meet at East Grand Forks Tuesday night.

Thief River Falls used five pins and a pair of forfeits to defeat the Panthers 42-21 in the second match. TRF defeated EGF 54-12 in the final match.

In the win over East Grand Forks, the Panthers trailed 18-0 before Zach Tretbar received a forfeit win at 135 pounds.

The Panthers trailed 24-6 before rallying behind Forrest Drury's first-period pin at 160, Cole Tretbar's 13-1 major decision at 215, and forfeit wins by Adam Branstrom at 145, Nick Schulz at 152 and Kevin Just at 171. Tretbar used a takedown and nearfall in the first period, a reversal and takedown in the second period, and a takedown and nearfall in the third period to seal the win for Park Rapids.

Both teams forfeited matches at 112, 119, 189 and heavyweight.

Thief River Falls and Park Rapids split the 10 matches they wrestled, but two forfeit wins and five pins gave the Prowlers the win.

Ben Baumgartner used a first-period takedown, two reversals in the second period, and a takedown in the third period for an 8-3 minor decision at 112 pounds as the Panthers trailed 6-3.

The Prowlers won the next two matches before Zach Tretbar received a forfeit win at 135.

Pins in the next two matches gave Thief River Falls a 30-9 advantage before Drury used an escape in the second period and a pair of reversals in the third period for a 5-4 minor decision at 160.

Danny Pike's first-period pin at 189 and Brandon Ritter's 7-1 decision at 215 made it 36-21. A first-period takedown, a second-period escape and takedown, and a third-period takedown gave Ritter the win.

Thief River Falls received a forfeit win at heavyweight to close out the match as the Panthers fell to 4-5 in dual meets. Both teams forfeited at 130 and 140.
