Pins and forfeit wins in the upper weights enabled the Park Rapids wrestling team to open the season with a pair of dual victories at Menahga Tuesday night.

In the first match, the Panthers trailed 27-24 before three pins and a forfeit win led to a 48-33 victory over Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena.

Park Rapids faced a 36-18 deficit in the second match before a pin and three forfeit wins led to a 45-36 victory over United North Central.

Against BCLB, Ben Baumgartner's first-period pin at 112 pounds, Laine Jensen's third-period pin at 119, Luke Hartig's first-period pin at 130 and Zachary Steffen's second-period pin at 140 gave the Panthers a 24-18 advantage.

After BCLB took a 27-24 lead, Forrest Drury's second-period pin at 160, Kevin Just's second-period pin at 171, Danny Pike's second-period pin at 189 and Brandon Ritter's forfeit win at 215 rallied the Panthers.

The Panthers used a similar formula to defeat UNC.

A pin by Tommy Tellers at 103 gave the Warriors a 6-0 lead before Baumgartner and Jensen received forfeit wins for Park Rapids.

The Warriors built a 36-18 advantage behind Sam Tellers' forfeit win at 125, Jake Malone's first-period pin at 130, Max Pajari's second-period pin at 135, Mike Johnson's first-period pin at 140 and Dylan Huttunen's second-period pin at 152. Steffen's second-period pin at 145 was the only win for Park Rapids during that stretch.

Drury's first-period pin at 160 and Just's overtime win at 171 closed the deficit to 36-27 before Pike, Cole Tretbar and Trai Schmidt received forfeit wins to complete the Panthers' comeback.
