Woman's foot broken in Bemidji robbery
BEMIDJI - Police are looking for a suspect after a woman reported someone punched her in the face, stole her car and $920, and broke her foot after driving over the top of it in a robbery early Sunday morning.
A female owner of a 1991 white Pontiac Grand Am was punched in the face as a suspect stole the vehicle and $920 in cash, according to a preliminary report from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.
The incident was reported at 1:44 a.m. from Elpine Village, 5623 Alps Court NW, in Bemidji.
The victim's foot also was broken as the suspect backed the car over it while he stole the vehicle, the report notes. She was transported to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp said Monday afternoon that a suspect has been identified but no arrest had yet been made.
He did not immediately know why the victim was carrying so much cash at the time of the robbery.
The victim and suspect did know each other, he said, as the victim had picked him up from a downtown tavern earlier that night and was giving him a ride.
There also were other witnesses in the car, he noted.
The investigation into the incident continues.
