Woman says burglar entered bedroom, apologized
Park Rapids Minnesota PO Box 111 56470

A man walked into a Dickinson woman's home on 10th Street East Saturday afternoon and opened her bedroom door, according to the Dickinson Police Department.

"I was taking a nap and heard the doorbell ring," Joan Metz said.

She thought she heard a door open, but at first thought her husband had come home. Minutes later a man was at her bedroom door.

"It opened and closed really fast and I jumped out of bed and here this guy was running down my hallway," Metz said. "I hollered and said 'Hey, what are doing?' and he turned around and he said 'Oh you're not Jessie.'"

She said he seemed nervous and apologized saying he was looking for "Jessie's" house.

"Maybe he was scared I was going to call the cops, but I didn't even think of calling them," Metz said, adding she thought the man made a mistake.

She later discovered about $30 was missing.

She called her neighbors, asking if a Jessie lived there, and they said no. She then called the police.

Metz said she was able to pick out the man from a line-up of photos police showed her.

Lt. Rod Banyai said no charges have been filed, but authorities have a suspect.

"The suspect was involved in a previous burglary at Pioneer Haven and was arrested for that burglary," Banyai said, adding police forwarded the reports to the state's attorney's office to consider charges.

Metz said she is glad everything turned out alright.

"I was shook up. It makes you nervous thinking what could have happened, but then I say, 'Oh it didn't happen,'" Metz said.
