Wolf Lake rallies late, tops Midway
Clutch hits by Ron Litzau and Eric Pilgrim rallied Wolf Lake to a 6-5 extra-inning victory over Midway in a Lake and Pine League North Division amateur baseball playoff game Sunday at Wolf Lake.
Wolf Lake trailed 5-3 entering the bottom of the ninth inning before scoring twice to force an extra inning. Boone Caughey led off by being hit by a pitch before being forced at second on Eric Pilgrim's grounder. Litzau's two-out RBI double scored Pilgrim. The Pack loaded the bases when Luther Kangas was intentionally walked and Shane Hendrickson was hit by a pitch. Jack Juberian was also hit by a pitch to force in the tying run.
In the 10th, Max Knoll reached on an infield single and advanced to second on Marcus Hendrickson's sacrifice bunt. After Caughey walked, Pilgrim lined a pitch into the right-centerfield gap to score Knoll with the winning run.
Midway jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on solo home runs over the centerfield fence by Zach Etter and Jeff Marjamaa in the first inning.
Wolf Lake took a 3-2 lead in the second. Juberian singled and Corey Pudas reached on an infield single. Knoll's RBI single scored Juberian. Marcus Hendrickson reached on a grounder to load the bases before an error on Caughey's grounder and an infield single by Pilgrim gave the Pack the lead.
Pudas and Midway's Brad Lusti didn't allow another run until the eighth when Chris Baso's two-run, two-out double scored Etter and Marjamaa with the go-ahead runs.
Wolf Lake then rallied to advance to the North Division championship game on Sunday.
Pudas went the distance for the win, allowing five runs on six hits.
Marjamaa went 3 for 4 with two RBI and Baso went 2 for 3 with two RBI to lead Midway's offense. Brad Lusti took the loss, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and three walks. Lusti struck out nine in 9 1/3 innings.
Midway hosts Red Eye Saturday afternoon at 1:30 in an elimination game with the winner playing at Wolf Lake Sunday afternoon at 1:30.

Wolf Lake and Midway opened the North Division playoffs with easy wins Saturday.
Wolf Lake defeated Bagley 14-1 while Midway defeated Red Eye 16-4.
The Snurdbirds belted out 17 hits in the win over Red Eye Saturday at Midway. Midway scored six runs in both the second and third innings and added four runs in the third for the win.
Marjamaa went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, three runs and three RBI; Jake Lund went 3 for 5 with two doubles; and Brad Lusti went 3 for 3 with two runs. Brett Dormanen went 2 for 3 with two runs while Etter and Mike Baso scored two times each.
Etter earned the win, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and five walks over the first four innings. Tony Meech gave up two runs on five hits over the final three innings.
