West Fargo police investigator arrested on assault allegations, charged with disorderly conduct
FARGO - An off-duty West Fargo police investigator was arrested in Fargo early today on suspicion of simple assault, West Fargo Police Chief Arland Rasmussen said.
Fargo police notified West Fargo police that Officer Allen Edward Schmidt, 41, was arrested at about 2:20 a.m. and booked into the Cass County Jail, Rasmussen stated in a news release this afternoon.
Fargo's police report will be forwarded to the Cass County State's Attorney for consideration of charges. West Fargo police will review the report prior to taking administrative action, Rasmussen said.
Schmidt was hired by West Fargo in June 1995.
According to records in Cass County District Court, Schmidt was charged with disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor, and made an initial court appearance this afternoon. He pleaded not guilty, according to court records.
A Cass County jail official said Schmidt is still in custody as of 3 p.m.
