Wellspring turns wine to water to benefit Africa

Wellspring

The Park Rapids community turned wine into water on Thursday evening at the kickoff event for the Wellspring Park Rapids Chapter. With a focus on providing much needed clean, life-giving water by providing funds to drill deep water wells in Africa, Wellspring has received tremendous, initial support from the Park Rapids area.

Between 75-100 people attended the wine tasting event at Bella Caffé this past Thursday evening. South African wines were enjoyed at all three wine tasting areas. Cheese, crackers and fruit were provided for attendees, who also had the option of juice tasting rather than wine. Videos of the impact of clean water to people who only had dirty, filthy water before ran continuously during the event.

The Wellspring Park Rapids Leadership Council is excited and pleased to announce the gift of a full water well from three different donors. That means over 1,000 people in Ghana will now experience a life- changing event as they drink and use clean water for the first time. The mortality rate of children immediately drops in half for these African communities when they can switch from contaminated water to clean, safe water.

But in addition to each of those three complete water well gifts, Wellspring Park Rapids Chapter also received an additional $2,500 through door ticket sales and additional donations from over 100 Park Rapids donors. Since it takes $5,220 to complete a well, the Park Rapids community is well on its way to completing a fourth well in this early phase of presence in the area.

In terms of what comes after the kickoff event, the Wellspring Leadership Council hopes to continue to tell the story of the tremendous need for clean, safe water in the world and then let the giving spirit of people do the rest.

The Leadership Council offers themselves to present the Wellspring story to any churches, service clubs, activity clubs, special interest groups or anyone else looking for understanding more about the needs of people who don't have the opportunity to drink clean, safe water.

"I would like to thank the Park Rapids community for the tremendous outpouring of support for this important cause in our world," said Carl Wall, President of Wellspring Park Rapids Chapter. "To be well on our way to a fourth well for the people of Ghana is an incredible testimony to the giving spirit of people in this area."
