Weather Talk: Jet stream may bring us old-fashioned heat wave

So far this summer, the hottest day of 2010 in Fargo-Moorhead was 95 degrees back on May 29.

But there may be an upcoming opportunity to better that reading. The jet stream pattern has, for several weeks, hinted at trying to form a high pressure ridge over the central and northern Plains. It appears that this may be gradually starting to come together.

Lately, it has been moderately hot across the middle of the country, but little waves of energy have kept slipping across the north, bringing us frequent stormy days (and nights) and keeping our temperatures closer to average.

But now a small, persistent low-pressure region off the coast of British Columbia may try to force the central Plains ridge northward, giving us an old-fashioned heat wave this month.
