I know the Park Rapids area recently had its annual Community Fishing Contest. That fact made me think of all the ice fishing tournaments around the state and how the mild temperatures have made organizers a bit "nervous." It also made me think about how fishing can be impacted by weather; and more specifically with barometric pressure and how it impacts how active will be your hook.

Most anglers know that when the barometric pressure is on the rise, fishing is generally at its best. When the pressure is stable or steady, some pros say it is good, others say that fishing is bad. The jury is out on this point. However, when the pressure is just starting to fall it is usually good, but after it has fallen for a few hours it is generally not very good.

It looks like the barometer will fall once again on Monday as yet another disturbance will arrive Monday into Tuesday across parts of Minnesota. I hope that helps a bit and will help you land a "big one!" Weather sure does impact us in so many ways.

Finally, it is great to be a part of the Park Rapids Enterprise with my twice weekly column. I am looking forward to sharing weather facts and information with you. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me with your weather questions at markanthony@ksax.com.

Enjoy our crazy Minnesota "winter!"
