Warriors earn homefield edge for playoffs despite loss to OTC at Fargodome
Despite ending the regular season with two losses, the United North Central football team still secured a home game for the Section 8AA playoffs.
Ottertail Central compiled 422 yards in offense in closing out the regular season with a 48-6 win over the Warriors at the Fargodome Thursday night.
Nick Trosdahl rushed 15 times for 129 yards and four touchdowns and added a touchdown reception as the Bulldogs won their seventh straight game.
Trosdahl caught a 27-yard TD pass as OTC took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter before a 14-yard TD run by Trosdahl, a 6-yard TD run by Andrew Smith and a 30-yard TD reception by Andrew VanErp gave OTC a 28-0 lead at the half.
Trosdahl then scored on runs of 1, 44 and 2 yards in the third quarter to push the lead to 48-0 entering the final quarter.
UNC avoided the shutout on Taylor Carlson’s 4-yard TD run.
The Warriors finished with 262 yards in offense with Carlson completing 13 of 23 passes for 168 yards and Tom Tellers adding a 47-yard completion to Keiler Skaro, who finished with 136 yards on seven receptions. Tristan Kjellberg led the ground game with 28 yards on 14 carries.
OTC, which allowed only 13 points and had five shutouts in the final seven games, improved to 7-1 on the season.
UNC, which fell to 3-5, earned the No. 4 seed for the section playoffs and hosted No. 5 Bagley Tuesday night. The winner of that game travels to No. 1 Hawley Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff.

Lange leads USA past UNC
Mitch Lange rushed 32 times for 166 yards and two touchdowns in leading Upsala/Swanville Area to a 23-8 Prairie North Conference victory over UNC on Oct. 11.
Lange scored TDs in the first and second quarters as OTC led 15-0 at the half. Jordan Sales caught an 87-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter and finished with 115 yards on five receptions for the Patriots, who ended the season with a 4-1 record in the conference and a 7-1 record overall. USA racked up 353 yards in offense, including 225 on the ground.
The Warriors ended with 316 yards in offense, including 223 through the air. Carlson’s TD pass to Skaro in the fourth quarter accounted for UNC’s only score.
Carlson completed 12 of 27 passes for 169 yards. Tellers completed a 36-yard pass and Kjellberg completed an 18-yard pass. Kjellberg caught five passes for 73 yards and Skaro had 55 yards on three receptions. Kjellberg rushed 16 times for 32 yards, Jordan Yliniemi had 32 yards on six carries and Dylan Huttunen rushed 11 times for 26 yards.
