Paige Walters and Mandy Allman sparked a 14-0 run in the first half that sparked the Nevis girls basketball team to a 61-38 victory over Park Rapids Thursday night at the Tiger Arena.

Both teams struggled offensively at the start as a 3-pointer by Park Rapids' Hannah Wolff and a jumper by Walters led to a 3-3 tie after the first five minutes.

After a layup by Allman gave the Tigers a 5-3 lead with 12:07 remaining in the first half, a 3-pointer by Carson Lee Christenson and a jumper by Sophie Shogren gave the Panthers an 8-5 edge with 11:28 remaining.

Nevis then went on a 14-0 run to claim the lead for good. A layup by Bettsy Hjelseth, two jumpers by Walters, a basket off a rebound by Riley Hanson, and two inside baskets and a pair of free throws by Allman gave Nevis a 19-8 lead at the 7:12 mark.

A free throw by Hailey Lundin and a layup by Ashley Domino closed the gap to 19-11 with 4:49 to play before the Tigers used inside baskets by Hanson and Walters to build a 24-11 cushion with 3:06 left.

A jumper by Christenson was offset by a jumper by Walters as Nevis led 26-13 with 2:08 showing. Two free throws apiece by Lundin and Wolff offset a pair of baskets by Hanson as the Tigers carried a 31-17 lead into the break.

A three-point play by Walters, a jumper by Hjelseth and two inside baskets by Hanson pushed Nevis' lead to 42-21 with 14:29 left. Domino and Wolff had baskets for the Panthers during that stretch.

Wolff followed with a jumper and two 3-pointers as the Panthers closed the gap to 43-29 with 12:53 to play.

Nevis regained control behind jumpers by Walters, Hanson and Allman for a 49-30 lead with 8:36 to go.

After a 3-pointer by Alyssa Carlson made it 49-33 with 8:17 to play, the Tigers used layups by Hjesleth, Walters, Allman and Hanson to build a 57-33 advantage with 5:39 left.

Layups by Domino and Wolff offset a basket off a rebound and two free throws by Walters as the two teams scored only nine points the rest of the way.
