Walter "Bee" C. Kangas, 85, Osage, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
Walter Clarence Kangas, known as "Bee" was born July 7, 1927 in Chicago, Ill. to Walter J. and Hanna (Errikilla) Kangas.
He was raised by his grandparents in rural Wolf Lake and was educated there. As a young man, he worked in the shipyards out west prior to serving with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he returned to rural Osage.
Bee was united in marriage to Verna Pihlaja, July 13, 1949 in rural Osage. They farmed in rural Becker County until moving to Chicago for four years. They moved back to rural Osage and Bee worked as a certified welder for a number of construction companies.
Verna died in 2002. Bee enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting and going to the "library" with Delbert.
Survivors include a daughter, Mavis (Russell) Davis of Rochert; six grandchildren, Stacey Kangas, Kailey Kangas, Jill (Steve) Boder, Luke (Brittany) Kangas, Heather (Jack) Everson, Ryan Davis; and nine great-grandchildren,
In addition to his wife, Verna; he was preceded in death by a son, Jody; parents, Hanna and Walter; and brother, John "Sonny" Kangas.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Monday, May 13, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Snellman.
Interment: Snellman Cemetery.
Friends called 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 12 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at David-Donehower Fu-neral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
