W-DC, DL run by Panthers in Mid-State play

Wadena-Deer Creek stayed in the hunt to win the Mid-State Conference boys basketball title with a 59-40 victory over Park Rapids Tuesday night at Wadena.

Jordan Reed scored 17 points to lead a balanced attack for W-DC. The win lifted the Wolverines to 3-1 in conference play and 4-3 overall.

Andy Waller scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds and Kyle Goplerud scored 10 points to lead the Panthers, who trailed 33-24 at the half. Christian Ridlon led the way with 12 rebounds while Taylor Kimball had four steals and three assists as the Panthers fell to 0-5 in the conference and 1-8 overall.

Lakers run past Panthers

Joe Mollberg scored 17 points to lead a balanced attack as Detroit Lakes ran away with a 99-37 conference win over the Panthers last Friday night at Detroit Lakes.

Connor Hedstrom (12), Brian Labat (11) and Kirk McLeod (11) also scored in double figures for the Lakers, who had 12 players enter the scoring column. Detroit Lakes jumped out to a 55-15 lead at the half en route to the win.

The Lakers followed that victory with wins over Little Falls and Staples-Motley to improve to 4-0 in the conference and 9-2 overall.

Ridlon (9) and Kimball (6) combined for 15 points to lead the Panthers. Ridlon had six rebounds, Chris Goplerud had five rebounds, Kimball and Tanner Otterness had two assists each, and Scott Wolff blocked two shots for Park Rapids.
