Area schools delayed due to weather

Volleyball tournaments kick off Thursday night

Park Rapids received the No. 6 seed and will open the Section 8AA North volleyball tournament at No. 3 Roseau Thursday night at 7.

The Panthers ended the regular season with a 6-16 record while Roseau finished at 14-11-2.

Thursday night's winner faces either No. 2 Pequot Lakes (17-9) or No. 7 Crookston (6-17) Friday night at the higher seed.

The other Section 8AA North quarterfinals Thursday night pit No. 1 Thief River Falls (22-2-1) against No. 8 Bagley (8-16) and No. 4 East Grand Forks (11-16) against No. 5 Warroad (11-15). The winners of those matches meet at the higher seed Friday night.

In the South half, No. 1 Wadena-Deer Creek (23-4) receives a bye and will host the winner between No. 4 Hawley (17-8-1) and No. 5 Breckenridge (15-9) Friday night. The other quarterfinals matches in the South pit No. 2 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (19-7) against No. 7 Staples-Motley (1-24) and No. 3 Perham (12-15) against No. 6 Pelican Rapids (11-12).

The North championship match and South championship match will be played next Tuesday at sites to be determined. The Section 8AA championship match is set for Nov. 5 at a site to be determined.

The Section 5A tournament also begins Thursday night at 7 with Menahga, the No. 6 seed in the West A bracket, playing at No. 3 Bertha-Hewitt, the No. 3 seed in the West A bracket. The winner of that match plays at No. 2 Browerville Friday night at 7 p.m.

Nevis, the No. 1 seed in the East B bracket, receives a first-round bye and will host the winner between No. 4 Pillager and No. 5 Isle Friday night at 7. If Nevis wins that match, the Tigers will host either No. 2 Onamia, No. 3 Pine River-Backus or No. 6 Royalton next Tuesday night at 7.

The East championship match will be played at Pierz on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. with the Section 5A championship match set for Nov. 5 at Pierz at 7 p.m.

Rush City received the No. 1 seed in the East A bracket while East Central was the No. 2 seed.

In the West A bracket, Sebeka received the No. 1 seed while Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and Upsala were seeded No. 1 and No. 2 in the West B bracket.
