Vintage, muscle cars will gather this weekend in PR
The Northern Knights will celebrate the 27th annual Run to the Rapids street rods show Friday and Saturday, Aug. 13-14 in Park Rapids.
The event kicks off Friday with registration at 4 p.m. at the C'mon Inn, followed by food, sodas and rock and roll music, free to all participants.
Registration on Saturday begins at 8 a.m. at the county fairgrounds followed by the show-n-shine with the trophy presentation starting at 1 p.m. Street rod owners will display their vintage vehicles and muscle cars at the fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday during their annual "show 'n' shine."
The cars are usually visible on Main Avenue. The gathering was moved to the fairgrounds because of road construction on Main Avenue.
The public is invited to stop by the fairgrounds to view the cars and talk with the owners. Event planners expect about 120 classic cars.
There will be drawings for prizes all morning long for registered participants who must be present to win. Club members are not eligible for the prizes. The grand prize is a running dynode, rebuilt 350, 300 H.P. small block Chevy engine.
Watch for the cars to rumble through town Saturday afternoon. The event will come to a close with root beer floats at the fair grounds at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.
