VETS VIEWS: Many community activities support vets
Veterans activities are a given in Hubbard County. It is extraordinary when you realize what is going on just within our County. In a recent weeks' timeframe there were at least 3 honor guards serving at funerals of veterans, 2 veterans service organization picnics (DAV, 40 et 8), a beautiful "All Veterans Tribute" conducted at Howard Maninga's , the Quilt of Honor Ladies dropped off 4 lap quilts at my office for presentation to veterans who return from Iraq or Afghanistan, the Heartland Express provided rides to veterans with medical appointments, a PTSD Support Group meeting, and this is all in addition to the over 70 contacts this office had with veterans.
I am proud to announce the Hubbard County Veterans Fair, Sept. 7-8 at the Park Rapids American Legion for military, veterans and family members. Tuesday will be an opportunity to learn about veterans benefits in a group setting. Wednesday is an opportunity for veterans to meet individually with representatives regarding employment, education and other VA benefits. Refreshments by American Legion Post #212. All attending Iraq and Afghanistan veterans will receive a lap quilt from the local Quilt of Valor Group and all veterans will get a 2010 Federal Benefits Information Guide.
Tuesday is an informal Veterans Information Seminar from 5:30-7 p.m. Jeff Burth, Supervisor of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Service Office and I will provide information about VA and State Veterans programs. Wednesday, representatives will be on hand from the Department of Minnesota Veterans Affairs, the Higher Education Veterans Programs (Education Benefits) the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (Employment Programs) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Please join us if you have a question about your specific circumstances or to learn more about veteran benefits in general.
