UPDATED: Three fire departments respond to house burning near Park Rapids
Park Rapids Minnesota PO Box 111 56470

An empty residence off County Road 81 was an inferno Thursday morning that required three fire departments to respond to.

The home belonged to Jeff Hunt, an information technologist who used to work for the school system. The house was for sale.

He could not be reached for comment.

Park Rapids called in Nevis and Menahga under mutual aid agreements around 9 a.m. The fire started about 8 a.m. Black smoke could be seen pouring from the structure for miles.

Dozens of firefighters converged on the scene as assistant chiefs Terry Long and Mike Ridlon had their hands full directing traffic into the site, a half mile off the gravel road near Switzer Lake.

Trucks were able to refill from a small lake near the property.

The house, was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived on the scene.

Fire Chief Donn Hoffman said Hunt had been living in the house,  but he was unable to be reached by Friday.
