UPDATED: Akeley mayor resigns; council appoints new mayor; council member stays on board
Newly elected Akeley mayor Scott Vettleson resigned Wednesday night, citing health reasons. He was elected last November and has served less than a year. The Akeley City Council appointed Jennifer Mitchell to fill out his unexpired term.
"I apologize to the citizens of Akeley that I can't continue," he said Wednesday evening.
In resigning, Vettelson told the city that "an unexpected long-term health issue" was the reason he would not fill out his term. He did not elaborate. Meanwhile council member Jon Johnson, who was also expected to resign, moved back into city limits and will complete his term.
