The 14th annual Hubbard holiday boutique will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (Saturday) and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at the Hubbard Community Center.

The event will feature holiday and gift items by local artists. A light chili luncheon will be served for a free will offering, with 100 percent donated to the Hubbard First Responders.

Items include sports wall art, Christmas wreaths, swags and garlands, primitive wood, rugs, ornaments, wall hangings, mosaics, knitted sweaters and mittens and wood toys. Fresh baked breads and baguettes will be sold to benefit Living at Home.

Ruby's Pantry Food distribution will be held today (Saturday) at the Menahga VFW Club.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the food distribution following at 10:30 a.m. 

The cost is $15 per share. Bring baskets and boxes for food.  Volunteers are also needed and much appreciated.

The second annual Menahga holiday boutique wil1 be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today (Saturday) Nov. 13 at the Senior Citizens Center.

The event will include crafts and collectibles with a soup and sandwich lunch served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

An "old-fashioned Christmas bazaar" will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday during November at the Mission House, 207 Grove Ave., Park Rapids.

The sale includes a variety of handmade items, including aprons, hats, pillows, jewelry, quilts and baby shoes as well as collectibles and vintage Christmas items and baked goods.

Osage resident Rod Hunt will sign copies of his book, SEM, The Ordinary Mind; A Soul Adventure, beginning at noon today (Saturday) Nov. 6 at Beagle Books.

The book is divided into meditations and commentary. The meditations are primarily from deep concentration that produces stories from pre-Christian to modern times.

Woven into the episodes are threads from Eastern and Western religions, philosophies and history, providing a human tapestry of vibrant and frayed areas.

The author, grieving the death of his wife, gives himself to the page, allowing the reader to travel with him on his soul journey.

sunday, Nov. 7

A hunters' breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at the Guthrie Community Center.

The menu includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee, juice and milk.

A free will donation will be received to fund Guthrie-Nary Lions projects.

Kids Against Hunger will conduct food packaging from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at Faith Baptist.

Grab a friend, bring a group or come by yourself and make a difference in the life of someone who is truly hungry.

A suggested donation of $15 per person for two hours of food packaging will help defray the cost of supplies and shipping.

Every $1 donated pays for six servings and is fully tax deductible.

A one-man dramatic performance, "The Mushroom Picker," will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at the ITOW Veterans Museum in Perham and at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8 at the Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes.

"The Mushroom Picker" tells the true story about an unlikely World War II hero who sprang from a small Midwestern town and was thrown into the center of world history.

Patrick Dewane, the author and actor of the production, based the play on his grandfather's experience as a World War II Czech-American soldier fighting in the very region of Europe from which his ancestors hailed.

Refreshments and opportunity for discussion will be available after the performance.

This activity, which is free and open to the public, is made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board, through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage fund. Monday, Nov. 8

A blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Park Rapids.

The Hubbard County DFL will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8 at the Park Rapids Area Library. 

This is an accessible site.   Participants will be discussing the upcoming schedule and the election. 

All are welcome and encouraged to come and participate.
