MONDAY, MAY 27

     The Wolf Lake Chapter of the Minnesota Finnish American Historical Society will be hosting their 27th annual pancake breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, May 27 at the Wolf Lake Lions Hall.

     The menu will include pancakes, ham and homemade fruit syrups.  A freewill donation will help fund scholarships to Salolampi, the Finnish language camp at Concordia Language Villages.  Everyone is welcome.

Two Perham veterans will share their stories “In Their Own Words”  for Memorial Day at 1 p.m. Monday, May 27 at the ITOW Veterans Museum in Perham.

                Dr. Bill Rose, local veterinarian and survivor of a “Death experience” in Vietnam, will share his powerful story. 

Paul Ceynowa, World War II veteran, shares his first-hand experience at Iwo Jima. 

Informal question and answer sessions will follow each speaker.  This is an opportunity for students, teachers, family, friends and community to learn more about veterans experiences, “In their Own Words”. 

                The ITOW Veterans Museum will be open Memorial Day from 10 a.m. 3 p.m.; admission will be free.

SATURDAY, JUNE 1

     A scrapbooking workshop for girls in grades 3-6 will be offered from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at Faith Baptist Church.

     Bring photos and (needed but not required) double sided tape, three-ring binder, colored pens or markers and other scrapbooking items.

     A snack will be provided.

SUNDAY, JUNE 2

     Park Rapids Fun & Dance will host a dance from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at the Park Rapids American Legion.

     The public is invited to dance to "Michael James & Midi."  Proceeds pay for the band and rent of the facility.

SATURDAY, JUNE 8

     The third annual Laporte  Area Take a Kid Fishing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 8 on Garfield Lake.

     Registration is from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at Pine Beach Resort and Campground. An invasive species demonstration will be held at 11:30 a.m.

     A fish fry will follow at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Laporte.

     Guides are being sought for the event taking kids ages 10 to 15 years old out on the lake for an afternoon of fishing.

     Donations both monetary and in-kind are being sought.

THURSDAY, JUNE 13

     St. Joseph's Area Health Services Auxiliary Group 2, is hosting a Flag Day Picnic from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at the American Legion. 

     A flag folding ceremony will be held at noon. 

     The menu includes potato salad, baked beans, sloppy joes, coleslaw, pickles, cupcakes and beverage.

     Everyone is welcome.  

     The Northwoods State Retirees Club will have their spring meeting and luncheon at noon Thursday, June 13 at the Becida Bar and Grill, southwest of Bemidji on CSAH 9.

     All MRSEA, PERA and TRA retirees and guests are invited.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19           

     The Kinship mini golf tournament will be held Wednesday, June 19 at Evergreen Gifts and Fun Park.

     Start times are 5, 6 or 7 p.m. with a rain date of Wednesday, June 25.

     Cost is $60 per team and all ages can vie for the coveted traveling trophy.

     And the challenge is on. Last year’s winner ­ - Northwoods Bank – sent in their registration, with aspirations to reclaim the distinction.

     All ages can claim fame. Last year, a 3-year-old was the lone winner on one of wacky holes.
