U.S. Census open basic skills testing will be conducted from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 13 in the small meeting room of the Park Rapids Area Library.

Ladies of the Lake, a newly formed women's group, will meet for dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13 at Four Seas Restaurant.

The group is open to all women 18 and over, regardless of marital or relationship status.

The group is also working on a book club, casino night, camping and lake time. A Mall of America trip is planned Aug. 12.

Friends of the Park Rapids Area Library will hold a book sale from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13 in the library basement.

There are books and magazines for all ages and interests. All children's books will sell for 10 cents. Also featured are puzzles, DVDs and videos.

All proceeds benefit the library. The library basement is handicap accessible.

PEO Chapter FQ will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 13 at the home of Andrea Frank with Eunice Rothermel and Anne Marg co-hostessing.

Rothermel will present the program, K1P2.

Greenwood Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13 in the Hubbard County Courthouse basement.

The Akeley Paul Bunyan Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13 at the Akeley Senior Center.

Friday, May 14

Members of the Park Rapids American Legion, Auxiliary and volunteers will distribute memorial poppies Friday, May 14 "in remembrance of those who have given so much and still are to insure our freedom."

Hospitalized veterans invite area residents to honor the war dead and assist living veterans and families by "wearing a poppy and a smile."

Saturday, May 15

Menahga Senior Center will host a pancake and sausage breakfast with a bake sale from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15.

A free will offering will be received.

The White Oak Cemetery board will have its annual meeting at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 15 at the White Oak Church Hall.

In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be rescheduled for May 22 at the same time and place.

Sunday, May 16

The Park Rapids Lions will host the 28th annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 16 at the Park Rapids American Legion.

Proceeds benefit Lions community projects.

Monday, May 17

A defensive driving certificate renewal class will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 17 in the Frank White Education Center.

Dick Devine will instruct.

The Park Rapids Lions will host a "be a hero" blood drive from noon to 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 17 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 at the Park Rapids American Legion.

Boys and girls elementary basketball will be offered after school until 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, May 17-27 in the Century School gym.

Kids will have some fun learning the basics of basketball via drills and games.

Tuesday, May 18

Chapter T of the PEO Sisterhood will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 18 at the home of Cheryl Steinborn.

Co-hostesses are Mary Peterson and Ann Johnson.

Bobbi Zigmant and Clarice Konshok will present the program addressing "a lifetime of fitness and health."

St. Joseph's Area Health Services Auxiliary Group VI will host a fundraising spring salad buffet Tuesday, May 18 in the community room of SummerField Place, 705 East River Dr.

Serving times are 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

The menu includes veggie, fruit, meat and seafood salads along with rolls, beverages and dessert.

Call 732-7615 to reserve seating. All proceeds benefit St. Joseph's Area Health Services Foundation.

The Red Hat Ladies of Park Rapids will join the St. Joseph Auxiliary's salad luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 at SummerField Place.

RSVP to Chrys Mortenson at 732-3633 by Thursday, May 12.  Proceeds will benefit the hospital auxiliary.  

Also on Friday, May 14, members will join the residents of Heritage Living Center at 3 p.m. for music and dessert. 

Discover the art of creating a twined rug in a class to be offered from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 at the Park Rapids Area High School. 

There are a variety of sizes from which to choose.  A materials list and information on the frames will be available upon registration. 

The frames will also be available from the instructor, Sandy Drury.

A Parents Forever course, for those court ordered to take a parenting class, will be offered from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, May 18 and 19 in the Frank White Education Center. 

Participants will receive a certificate of completion after attending all eight hours.  Former partners will not be registered for the same class. 

Sara Forsberg will instruct.

Park Rapids Antique Tractor Club will meet Tuesday, May 18 at tractor club headquarters.

The board meets at 6 p.m. with the general meeting at 7 p.m.

Excel 2007 will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, May 18 and 20 at the Park Rapids Area High School.

Use Excel for a name and address book to create labels for a mail merge to mail a common document to a number of people.  Learn to reference titles and descriptions from codes.  Set up tables to present information. 

The prerequisite for this course is knowledge of Windows. This course is geared to people looking to improve basic job skills. 

Cal Rise will instruct.
