Two swimmers apparently drown in Minnesota lake
Two swimmers apparently drowned Sunday in Pokegama Lake in Itasca County.
Searchers found the body of one of the victims Sunday but still are looking for the second.
Itasca County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Terry Snyder said a fisherman reported the incident to 911 about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Emergency medical workers, search-and-rescue personnel and sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the lake and recovered a man's body about 6 p.m.
"Search efforts are continuing for the second male," Snyder said.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims.
Snyder estimated Sunday's winds had sustained speeds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts of 40 to 45 mph.
"There were pretty good-sized waves on the lake," he said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the drownings, Snyder said.
