Two men escape injury when aircraft crashes into lake

DEERWOOD, Minn. - Two men were pulled from a central Minnesota lake Friday by a citizen who witnessed an ultralight aircraft crashing into the lake, Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl reported.

The pilot, Richard Northburg of Deerwood, and passenger, Justin Odle of Aitkin, were not injured. Northburg reported to deputies that they were flying over Agate Lake near Deerwood when the engine on the aircraft stalled, causing them to land in the lake.

Inspectors from the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash, which was reported at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
