Join members and friends of the Laurentian Lakes Chapter as they celebrate National Trails Day with a Lady Slipper hike on Sat. June 2 at 1 p.m. This hike will will be on the North Country Trail beginning at the State Highway 113 trailhead which is located 1 mile west of the Becker Co. 37 intersection. This will be a 4 mile hike, walking south along the Laurentian divide, with a shuttle back to our cars. A chapter meeting, presentation of backcountry campsites, and dinner will follow at Bad Medicine Resort.
The Itasca Moraine Chapter has also scheduled activities for National Trail Days, June 2. The public is invited to meet at the Shingobee Recreation Area parking lot located 5 miles southwest of Walker on Highway 34 at 2 p.m. Participants then make a choice of hiking or doing planting and light maintenance on the trail in the Shingobee area. A work party is also planned for the Chippewa National Forest in the Remer area.
A three mile hike is set for the NCT from the Shingobee River Bridge to the Shingobee Recreation Chalet. This hike passes through beautiful mixed conifer and hardwood forests plus crosses the Anaway Creek bridge. There will be a wealth of wildflowers. Hikers and the work parties will meet at the Chalet at 5 p.m. for a complimentary barbeque.
