Two candidates seeking interim sheriff position
Only two candidates have submitted their names to be Hubbard County's interim sheriff.
Chief Deputy Frank Homer and Sgt. Cory Aukes, as expected, are vying for the appointment to an 18-month term.
An election in November 2010 will determine the sheriff for the following four years.
Homer will be interviewed by the county board at 2 p.m. April 15.
Aukes' interview will follow 20 minutes later.
Current Sheriff Gary Mills, who recently underwent hip replacement surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, will retire the end of April. The board hopes to appoint the next sheriff effective May 1.
The interviews are open to the public. They will take place in the county boardroom on the ground floor of the courthouse.
Both men have support from county board members, so getting a three-vote majority on the five-member board could be a contentious discussion.
