Email

A living windscreen has been planted at the Depot Park tennis courts. The Park Rapids Tennis Association partnered with the city of Park Rapids and Park Rapids Area School District to plant the trees this fall. A group of tennis association volunteers gathered Wednesday morning at Depot Park. Above, the group gathers for a quick picture. At left, Mary Ann Pech waters a newly planted tree. A row of Black Hills Spruce was planted along the south side of the courts and another row of Black Hills Spruce were planted along the west side of the courts. RDO donated the black dirt and Dick Walsh Forest Products donated wood chips. The city of Park Rapids donated water and helped with the project as well. A row of Norway Pine will be planted in 2013 along the south side of the courts. A memorial planting was also completed by the "Friday Night" players in memory of Mel Hughes. This is located on the southeast corner of the courts.
