GRAND FORKS, N. D. -- The officer overseeing the North Dakota Highway Patrol's northeast region was arrested for driving while impaired in Minnesota on March 10, Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp has confirmed.

Cap. Kevin Robson, based at the Grand Forks office, has not been charged and the case is still under investigation, Hodapp said. He would not release any more details.

Robson, who has been with the patrol for 15 years, is the administrative commander for a seven-county region and supervises 29 officers.

A message left for him by the Herald was not immediately returned.

Col. Jim Prochniak, superintendent of the highway patrol, said Robson has been on personal leave since last week. He said no disciplinary action has taken place and the department will investigate once the Beltrami County investigation is complete.

"We're going to have to wait and see what we gather from the investigation and rely on the information from the reporting agency," he said. "Once we get that, it'll shed a little more light on it."

Robson, as part of his duties, acted as a spokesperson for the patrol, commenting on a number of issues including drunk driving.

Lt. Jody Skogen of the highway patrol said he didn't remember the last time a patrol officer was arrested on a similar charge and said such instances are very rare.

Robson is a former UND football player from 1990 to 1993, and was a captain his senior season. He also played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League, and named the team's rookie of the year in 1994.
