Tony Ronald Engst, 96, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 in Park Rapids due to kidney failure.
Tony was born Aug. 16, 1916 in Gwinner, N.D. to Frank and Mary "Rossow" Engst. He graduated from high school in Milnor, N.D. in 1935. He graduated from Wahpeton North Dakota State College of Science in 1937.
Sept. 1, 1940 he married Helen Mildred Johnson in Taylor Falls. They enjoyed over 58 years of marriage. From 1938 to 1950 he owned and operated Modern Insulating Company in St. Paul. In 1950 they moved to Clarissa and he and Helen owned and operated the Park Movie Theater. In 1956 he invented an "Adjusta weather stripping machine" which he had patented and made insulation for doors. In 1959 they moved to Hector and bought a Red Owl grocery store, which he and Helen operated for 22 years. Tony and Helen enjoyed a trip to Hawaii and two trips to Mexico.
Tony enjoyed fishing, playing cards and giving candy to his great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and being with family and friends.
Tony is survived by his children, Janice (Arvid) Ward, of Hector, Ron (Ellie) Engst of Park Rapids; five grandchildren: Toni Jo (Brian) Babatz, Tami (Dave) Henning, Lance (Katie) Engst, John Engst, Jim (Melody) Engst; grandson-in-law Ed Chermak; and 14 great-grandchildren and 17 greatgreat-grandchildren.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife Helen; two brothers; three sisters; granddaughter Teri Chermak; great-grandson Tylor Ward Chermak; and great-great-grandson, Tristen Maresch.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Assem-bly of God Church in Park Rapids.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials are pre-ferred to St. Joseph's Hospice, 323 S. Main Ave., Park Rapids, MN 56470.
