Toft close to breaking scoring record at Nevis
Nolan Toft reached a major scoring milestone and approached another one as the Nevis boys basketball team defeated Royalton and lost to Red Lake.
Toft scored 8 points as the Tigers defeated Royalton 57-36 last Friday night. That gave the Nevis senior 2,002 career points.
During Tuesday night's game against Red Lake, Toft scored 21 points to push his career total to 2,023. That is 10 points away from tying Gretta Hjelseth's school record of 2,033 points.
Despite Toft's 21 points, 11 rebounds and five steals, the Tigers fell short as Red Lake prevailed 88-72 at the Tiger Arena. Dylan Stenberg added 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists while Taylor Chase had 14 points. Mitch Rehkamp chipped in 10 points. Hunter Schroeder had six rebounds and five steals as the Tigers fell to 3-1 in the Northland Conference and 8-1 overall.
Sam Kingbird had 32 points for Red Lake, which made 24 of 27 free throws to improve to 8-2 on the season.
