Tigers remain undefeated in Northland Conference play

     Wins over Lake of the Woods, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Blackduck kept the Nevis baseball team undefeated in the Northland Conference standings.

     The Tigers swept a conference doubleheader at Lake of the Woods on May 1 by scores of 5-3 and 9-2.

     In the first game, Austin Becker went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBI, Eddie Nedvicky went 2 for 3 and Victor Mastley scored two runs as a four-run second inning sparked the win. Brett Byer allowed four hits and struck out five in a complete-game victory.

     In the second game, Austin Becker went 3 for 5 with three RBI, including the game-winning RBI double during a seven-run seventh inning, and earned the win in relief by allowing no hits and striking out six of the 10 batters he faced. Gavin Becker went 2 for 3 and scored three runs.

     A four-run first inning sparked the Tigers to a 7-4 win over Barnesville on May 2. Austin Becker went 3 for 4 and scored twice while Gavin Becker went 2 for 4 to pace Nevis’ 10-hit attack.

     Austin Becker’s four-hit, 11-strikeout performance led Nevis to a 4-0 win at Menahga on Monday. Byer, Andrew Dudley, Austin Becker and Mastley drove in runs for the Tigers.

     A 15-hit attack led the Tigers to an 11-5 win over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Tuesday. W-H-A jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first before Nevis scored four runs in both the second and seventh innings. Dudley went 2 for 3, Austin Becker went 4 for 5 with four RBI and two runs, Courtland Chase hit a home run, Gavin Becker went 2 for 5 and Mastley went 2 for 4 with two runs. Byer was the winning pitcher.

     Gavin Becker threw a three-hitter in leading the Tigers to a 5-0 win over Blackduck on Tuesday. Austin Becker went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBI and Gavin Becker went 2 for 4.

     Nevis is now 12-0 in the conference and 13-3 overall. Blackduck is 7-1 and W-H-A is 5-2. LOW fell to 1-6 in conference play.
