Tigers follow win over HC with loss
Nevis' defense kept Hill City out of the end zone as the Tigers capped off homecoming week with a 12-0 9-man football victory on Oct. 9.
Anthony Becker's 55-yard touchdown run with 11:31 to play in the first quarter and Dylan Stenberg's 7-yard TD run with 4:53 to play in the first half accounted for all the scoring in this defensive battle.
The Tigers finished with 308 yards in offense with Becker rushing 11 times for 116 yards and Stenberg adding 82 yards on 19 carries. Zach Anderson completed 7 of 12 passes for 89 yards with Mitch Rehkamp catching three passes for 44 yards.
Defensively, the Tigers forced six turnovers with Rehkamp and Stenberg intercepting two passes each and Becker and Garrett Annexstad recovering fumbles. Matt Gustafson led the Tigers with 12 tackles while Nick Halfmann and Rehkamp were in on 11 tackles each.
"I had a good feeling that our defense was going to hold them to a low score. However, I didn't expect us to shut them out. They played very well all game," said Nevis head coach Shawn Klimek. "On offense we moved the ball very well. We had (more than) 300 yards of offense. I think that is a pretty good day. We need to clean up a few things so we can finish off drives."
The win gave Nevis a 4-2 overall record. The Tigers received a win on Oct. 5 when Fond du Lac had to forfeit because of lack of numbers. Fond du Lac was added to the schedule when Laporte dropped its football program. Nevis, which was scheduled to play Hill City on Oct. 2 and Laporte for homecoming, had the Hill City game moved to accommodate homecoming.
Nevis closed out the regular season by hosting Northome-Kelliher Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers finished with 80 yards on the ground with Stenberg carrying 11 times for 49 yards and Becker rushing nine times for 39 yards.
