Tigers compile 516 yards in offense in 58-8 win over Hill City

Email

Nevis head coach Shawn Klimek credits his offensive line for playing a key role in the Tigers' success this season.

Center Aaron Halik, guards Jake Keranen and Jordan Dudley, and ends Gerald Beckerleg and Courtland Chase once again provided the gaps and protection as Nevis compiled 516 yards in a 58-8 Great Northern Conference 9-man football win over Hill City last Friday night.

"This group of guys has done a great job blocking this year," said Klimek. "Many times you see them blocking someone 40 or 50 yards down the field. You can count on one hand the number of sacks the starting five has give up this year."

That was the case again Friday night at Nevis as the Tigers carried a 52-0 lead into halftime.

Collin Huckbody's 64-yard pass to Beckerleg, Robbie Hine's TD runs of 10 and 54 yards, and Austin Becker's 56-yard run gave the Tigers a 32-0 lead after the first quarter. Gavin Hitchcock ran in two conversions while Hine and Gavin Becker also scored on a conversion.

The Tigers added three more touchdowns in the second quarter. Hitchcock scored on a 5-yard run and ran in the conversion and Huckbody hit Hine on a 9-yard scoring route and Beckerleg on a 12-yard scoring route to give Nevis a 52-0 lead at the break.

Jordan Feder's 1-yard TD run in the third quarter gave Nevis a 58-0 lead.

Hill City's only touchdown came on a fumble return in the fourth quarter.

Huckbody completed 6 of 9 passes for 149 yards with Beckerleg making two receptions for 76 yards. The Tigers rushed for 367 yards with Austin Becker (five carries for 86 yards), Huckbody (eight carries for 83 yards), Feder (seven carries for 71 yards), Hine (three carries for 64 yards) and Hitchcock (11 carries for 41 yards) leading the way.

Defensively, the Tigers forced four turnovers with Gavin Becker and Kiefer Miller intercepting passes and Chase and Halik recovering fumbles. Chase also had two quarterback sacks. Michael Babler and Jake Keranen had four solo tackles each for the Tigers, who were ranked No. 15 in last week's state 9-man poll.

Nevis, which is averaging 46.5 points a game while allowing 11 points a night, improved to 6-0 on the season. Hill City fell to 1-5.
