Three-point shooting sparks East Grand Forks' victory over Park Rapids

East Grand Forks hit three quick 3-pointers to build an early lead and spark a 67-29 victory over the Park Rapids girls basketball team Friday night at the Area High School gym.

Three-pointers by Brooke Greenwood, Trisha Lewis and Chelsey Frydenlund gave EGF a 12-2 lead at the 13:45 mark before another 3-pointer by Frydenlund pushed the lead to 25-6 with 8:34 to play in the first half. A layup by Carson Lee Christenson, a jumper by Ashley Domino and a basket off a rebound by Anna Grimes accounted for the Panthers' three baskets.

A jumper by Amber Booge, another basket off a rebound by Grimes and a 3-pointer by Alyssa Carlson kept the Panthers within 31-13 with 4:50 to play. The Green Wave ended the half with a 9-1 run to carry a 40-14 lead into the break.

Christenson opened the second half with a layup before five consecutive layups sparked a 14-0 run as EGF built a 56-16 lead with 12:57 to play.

A 3-pointer by Carlson ended that run and Olivia Vaadeland followed with a three-point play as the Panthers trailed 56-22 with 11:51 remaining.

A layup by Grimes and jumpers by Marisa Rittgers and Booge concluded the scoring for the Panthers, who fell to 0-4 on the season.

Carlson (7) and Grimes (6) combined for 13 points while Grimes led the Panthers with nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Vaadeland grabbed eight rebounds and Lydia Lutz dished out five assists for the Panthers, who had 36 turnovers.

Frydenlund finished with 16 points to lead EGF, which improved to 3-1.
