Three Panthers qualify for Mid-Minn golf finals

Ed Carlson carded a career low 87 to lead the Park Rapids boys golf team at Wednesday's Mid-Minnesota Conference meet at Deacon's Lodge.

Carlson finished fourth at the No. 4 spot as the Panthers carded a 513 and earned 16 points in the final regular-season conference meet. Ian Johnson tied for fifth at the No. 2 spot with a 96 and Sterling Lindahl tied for fifth at the No. 5 spot with a 102. Nate Carlson's 111 and Gairett Johnson's 113 completed the Panthers' team score.

Nevis carded a 500 and earned 16 points behind Hunter Schroeder's fourth-place 88 at the No. 1 spot and Kyle Magnuson's 97 at the No. 2 spot. United North Central shot a 438 and earned 9.5 points behind Alex Schoon's 102 for a share of fourth place at the No. 5 spot and Frank Moren's 110 at the No. 4 spot.

Nevin Greer shot a 78 to earn medalist honors and lead Pequot Lakes to first place with a 406 and 54 points. Staples-Motley edged Pequot Lakes for the regular-season title with 186 points.

Park Rapids qualified three individuals for the Mid-Minnesota Conference Championships May 24 at Wadena. Ed Carlson (with 270 strokes in his three best meets), Ian Johnson (with 288 strokes) and Bailey Mueller (with 288 strokes) will join Schroeder (251 strokes) and Magnuson (288 strokes) at the conference championships. Crosby-Ironton and Wadena-Deer Creek will join Staples-Motley and Pequot Lakes as the four teams competing for the team title.

Team scores: Pequot Lakes (406) 54 points, Staples-Motley (408) 42.5 points, Crosby-Ironton (434) 33.5 points, Wadena-Deer Creek (447) 29 points, Pine River-Backus (476) 24.5 points, Park Rapids (513) 16 points, Nevis (500) 16 points, United North Central (538) 9.5 points.

Brainerd wins team title

Sean Halverson carded a 74 and Michael Foley followed with a 77 to lead Brainerd to the team title with a 313 at Tuesday's 11th annual Deacon's Lodge Invitational.

Nevis finished ninth with a 393, Park Rapids finished 10th with a 394 and United North Central was 11th with a 422.

Schroeder's 88, Magnuson's 97, Matt Halik's 102 and Aaron Halik's 106 led Nevis.

Ed Carlson's 87, Ian Johnson's 96, Lindahl's 102 and Nate Carlson's 111 led the Panthers.

Comprising UNC's team score were Schoon's 102, Lane Hillukka's 104, Brad Johnson's 106 and Moren's 110.
