Three arrested in Hubbard County copper theft
A Cass Lake woman and two men from Walker have been charged in connection to damage to and copper theft from the former Ainsworth Plant in Hubbard County.
According to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, on Aug. 20 at 11:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a suspicious pickup in the area of the former Ainsworth Lumber mill in Farden Township.
When deputies responded to the area, they conducted a traffic stop of the suspected vehicle, which had three occupants. Deputies also observed a large number of copper plate and parts in the pickup bed, according to a sheriff’s office release. After further investigation, deputies found that there was damage done to buildings at the plant and suspected the copper found in the truck had been taken from the plant.
Initial estimates are that the copper is valued at several thousand dollars and damage to the plant buildings is nearly $100,000.
The three people in the truck were arrested: Nicole Clark, 25, Cass Lake, Jeffery Goose, 28, Walker and Roderick Goose, 47, Walker have been arraigned in Hubbard County on felony burglary, theft and damage to property charges, the release said.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department assisted in the investigation.
