Thomas "Tom" G. Beck, 61, of Akeley, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids.

Thomas George Beck was born Feb. 15, 1952 in Moorhead, the son of Rev. George and Mabel (Leverson) Beck. He grew up and attended school in Hawley. In 1967, he moved with his family to Akeley and graduated from Akeley High School in 1970. He later graduated from Bemidji State University. For over 40 years he has been a self-employed tax preparer and carpenter in the Akeley area.

He was united in marriage to Bernice R. Tinklenberg April 18, 1997 in Akeley.

He enjoyed golfing, deer hunting, baseball and playing with his grandchildren. He was an expert grandfather and uncle.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Akeley. For many years he had a membership to the Tianna Country Club and managed the local Shysters Baseball Team. He was currently serving his third term as the Akeley Township Clerk.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Beck of Akeley; his children, Dave and LeAnn Overbeek of Akeley, Dianne and Jim Poncelet of Akeley, Tamara and John Dascalos of Benedict; grandchildren, Michael and Elaina Dascalos; sister, Barb and Bruce Jacobs of Frazee; nephews, Jonathan and Heather Olson of Frazee, Jon and Stephanie Jacobs of McGregor; nieces, Angie Olson of Moorhead, Ryan and Christella Edwards; brother, John and Janet Beck of Hawley; nephew, Jacob and Rachel Beck of Moorhead; nieces, Rachel and Dillan Page of Moorhead, Jessica and Leland Mott of St. Hillaire, Kaitlin Beck of Fargo, N.D.; and 11-1/2 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, CR Jacobs; and six aunts and five uncles.

Funeral service: 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis. Pastor Darrell Morton will be the officiator.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening Oct. 31, at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Nevis, also for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Interment: Akeley City Cemetery.

Luncheon will be served at the First Lutheran Church after the services.
