This week was severe weather awareness week in the state of Minnesota. This is a week to get your family and business prepared for the upcoming severe weather season. You should have a plan as to what to do in the case of severe weather. Obviously, if a tornado is reported a basement is your best option or an interior room.

Minnesota has already experienced some severe weather this season, which is not unheard of, but is quite early compared to other years. Normally most of our severe weather takes place during May, June, and July.

On Tuesday morning Grand Marais had dropped to a record low three degrees. In contrast, Grand Marais residents woke-up to a morning low on Wednesday morning of 28 degrees. The cloud cover Tuesday night into Wednesday morning kept those temperatures up all over Greater Minnesota. The clouds act as a blanket to insulate the atmosphere and won't let temperatures drop very much.

Park Rapids had a low Tuesday morning of 24 degrees and by Wednesday it had dipped to just 39 degrees.

Rain showers moved across parts of Minnesota Tuesday night into Wednesday. Park Rapids received .53" of rainfall by Wednesday morning. St. Cloud, meanwhile, picked-up .25" of rainfall. From Sunday into Tuesday, however, over 2.25" of rain fell in the Alexandria area. Some locations reported over 4" of rainfall around the region. We certainly needed that rain to help with the fire danger around the state!

Enjoy your weekend!
