Eric Young, flanked by boats, swam the length of Lake Belle Taine Saturday to raise funds for Parkinson’s Disease, which claimed the life of his mother in December. The swim took 3 hours, 55 minutes, he said. “It was hard like I knew it would be, but having so many friends along the route along with all of the folks who came down to their docks to cheer me on made all the difference,” Young said. “My mom was with me all the way too, especially when things got a little difficult. The GPS on the canoe with me said the distance was 5.86 miles. It was a heck of a challenge - my shoulders got extremely fatigued and I had some cramps in my calves,” he added. “It was a day I'll always remember.” His goal was to raise $7,500 for research.
