Strom selected for Nevis K-12 principal position
John Strom has been chosen to assume the position of Nevis School K-12 principal.
"I'm excited," Strom said. "It's an honor and a privilege. This is a great school."
His wife, Alice, a notable wood carver, and daughter Meghan, an attorney, are Nevis alumna.
The former Park Rapids middle school counselor has been in the education profession since 1974, "except for the year we moved" to the family home he designed on 2nd Crow Wing Lake.
He's been a classroom teacher, Community Education coordinator, counselor and most recently, a principal in Fosston.
"This school is where I live," he said. "It's an ideal situation."
His position officially begins Aug. 1. The district received 31 applications for the position.
"This is a well managed school," he said, indicating his initial task will be orienting himself to the district.
Strom was born in Norway and immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba at 6 months with his parents.
The Stroms moved to Minnesota in 1995.
