Park Rapids' Jared Storseth and Kevin Merfeld earned all-conference honors with winning performances at Friday night's Mid-State Conference boys swimming and diving meet at the Area High School pool.

Storseth won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.48 seconds while Merfeld followed with a winning time of 5:36.19 in the 500 freestyle as the Panthers finished third with 379 points. Detroit Lakes won the conference title with 452 points while defending champion Perham was second with 416 points.

The Panthers also had eight swimmers earn all-conference honorable mention honors by finishing either second or third.

Storseth, Ryan McBrady, Sam Goebel and Nick Belfiori opened the meet with a runner-up 1:53.60 in the 200 medley relay.

Storseth (in 24.79) and Belfiori (in 24.82) finished 2-3 in the 50 freestyle and Goebel followed Merfeld in the 500 freestyle with a runner-up time of 5:36.33.

Park Rapids finished third in the 200 freestyle relay as Storseth, Belfiori, Merfeld and Goebel teamed up for a 1:42.35.

The Panthers closed the meet with three more all-conference honors as Connor Smythe took third in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.21; McBrady finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.41; and Zach Eystad, Josh Johnson, McBrady and Merfeld took third in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:05.87.

Detroit Lakes' Jon Melgaard had the only meet record by tallying 433.30 points in diving.

The Panthers will now prepare for the Section 3A meet Feb. 26-27 at Detroit Lakes.
