State Highway 34 reconstruction in Park Rapids resumes April 28
Phase 2 of the reconstruction of Highway 34 in Park Rapids is scheduled to resume Monday, April 28, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Phase 1 of the $11.3 million project, reconstruction of the highway from the intersection of Highways 71 and 34 to the west end of town, was completed last year.
Preliminary traffic control will be set up May 5, with the eastbound lanes on the south half of Highway 34 closed from the Fish Hook River bridge to County Road 107. The closure will allow storm and sanitary sewer work to get underway.
The general contractor, Central Specialties Inc., will hold its first weekly public information meeting beginning Thursday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at the Park Rapids Area Library.
Permits for overweight and over width vehicles will not be issued for the area from the junction of Highways 34 and 71 to the junction of Highway 34 and Co. Rd. 107 for the duration of the project.
Construction on the south half of the project is expected to last until mid-July when traffic will be shifted to the south side and construction will begin on the north half of Highway 34.
Landscaping and other related finishing work will be conducted in May and June on the portion of the project that was completed last year.
The entire project is expected to be complete in mid- to late September, weather permitting.
