Solid serving helps Panthers return to .500 mark with win over Rangers

     Solid serving helped the Park Rapids volleyball team get back to the .500 mark.

     Mady Vaudrin served eight aces and 16 points, Justine Rittgers served a pair of aces and 12 points and Megan Grimes served five aces and 10 points in leading the Panthers to a 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 Mid-State Conference victory over Crosby-Ironton Thursday night at Crosby.

     Grimes served three aces and eight straight points to give the Panthers a 20-9 lead before ace serves by Shania Johnson and Vaudrin closed out Set 1.

     In Set 2, Rittgers served two aces and 10 points to give the Panthers a 21-14 advantage before Vaudrin served out the final two points.

     Crosby-Ironton held a 17-15 lead in Set 3 before Vaudrin served out the match with the aid of three aces.

     Offensively, Vaudrin had eight kills while Grimes had seven kills. Johnson tallied 16 set assists.

     Defensively, Grimes had two solo blocks and 12 digs while Rittgers had 10 digs.

     The win lifted Park Rapids to 2-2 in conference matches and 9-9 overall. The Rangers fell to 0-3 in the conference and 2-19 overall.
