Snowmobile hits 151 mph speed at Lake Miltona event
Lake Miltona was the stage for speed Saturday.
Snowmobiles, ATVs - even motorcycles - zipped across a 1,000 foot shaved track.
They were competing against a radar gun in the fifth annual Leaf Valley Speed Rally.
The open-to-the-public event featured more than 40 classes, ranging from Kitty Kat to open fuel. The top three places in each class receive a trophy.
There was also a top speed of the day contest, which paid cash prizes of $500, $250 and $150.
The big winner was Rick Schellbach of Rush City. His top speed, the fastest of the day, was clocked at 151.2 miles per hour.
All proceeds from the rally will go to the Leaf Valley Game and Conservation Club.
Competitors seemed to enjoy the event. Here's what one participant posted on the website: "Another great Leaf Valley Speed Rally! Weather was good, track was good, everything went smooth. Thanks for putting on a fun race! Looking forward to next year!"
