Snowmobile driver serious injured in collision with tree
An unnamed snowmobile driver suffered serious injuries Saturday in a collision with a tree on the Heartland Trail near Nevis.
Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes said he was still assembling the information and would have a report later today. Tghe crash occurred around 11 a.m.
“We must have just missed the wreck by a few minutes,” a witness told the Enterprise. “It will be interesting to know a few more details like why was he on the wrong side of the trail. I also noticed the sled didn’t have a seat, only a small cushion.”
The witness said the driver may have been attempting to pass another sled when “someone cut in front of him. But that’s only speculation, the witnerss said.
“It did give us an uneasy feeling and although I don’t consider myself an aggressive rider we both rode with a little more caution the rest of the day.”
This is the second serious crash on a snowmobile this winter in Hubbard County. A Park Rapids man was seriously injured earlier this winter in a crash on Hubbard County 81 when he collided with a utility box.
