Sjolin resigns in Akeley; Johnson appointed to fill Hitchcock vacancy
The Akeley Council continues to experience a changing of the guard.
The council appointed former mayoral candidate Jon Johnson to the position vacated by Brian Hitchcock, recently deployed with the National Guard.
At this week's meeting, council member Eric Sjolin resigned, due to residency issues.
In a letter to the council, he explained he moved to Brainerd this winter, with plans to return to Akeley, come spring.
"The 'intent to return' condition is no longer valid, however, at least not on a full time basis, and as such I regretfully must step down," he wrote, citing an "employment opportunity I could not pass up."
The post will be filled by appointment, with interested parties asked to write a letter of interest.
