Seven Tigers receive all-conference honors
Senior Michael Tranby was among seven Nevis football players who received Great Northern Conference honors.
Tranby was named the conference’s Most Valuable Defensive Lineman and was joined on the all-conference team by juniors Austin Becker, Gavin Becker and Courtland Chase. Senior Skylar Huckbody, junior Gavin Hitchcock and sophomore Kiefer Miller were all-conference honorable mention selections.
As far as team honors, Austin Becker was voted the Tigers’ Most Valuable Player and Offensive Back of the Year. Chase was named the team’s Offensive Lineman and Defensive Lineman of the Year. Hitchcock was voted Defensive Back of the Year. Senior Michael Babler was named Special Teams Player of the Year. Griffin Chase was named Freshman of the Year. Sophomore Skylar Fynboh received the Coaches Award for outstanding work and effort.
Quarterback Austin Becker led the offense by completing 69 of 145 passes for 1,254 yards and 16 touchdowns and rushed 112 times for 719 yards and seven TDs. Gavin Becker caught 30 passes for 714 yards and 14 TDs and rushed 20 times for 153 yards and a TD. Hitchcock rushed 84 times for 490 yards and eight TDs and had 11 receptions for 118 yards and a TD. Miller had 86 carries for 639 yards and six TDs. Courtland Chase had 18 receptions for 346 yards and a TD. Griffin Chase had nine receptions for 91 yards.
Also making key contributions on offense were sophomore Jordan Spenst (30 carries for 213 yards and two TDs), sophomore Hunter Darchuk (25 carries for 106 yards and two TDs) and freshman Austin Yabandith (23 carries for 134 yards and a TD).
Gavin Becker led the Tigers with 92 points, Hitchcock scored 64 points, Austin Becker had 50 points and Miller scored 48 points.
Leading the defense were Tranby (48 solo tackles, 27 assists, three fumble recoveries), Courtland Chase (47 solo tackles, 17 assists, 7.5 quarterback sacks), Hitchcock (42 solo tackles, 18 assists), Spenst (35 solo tackles, 28 assists), Miller (33 solo tackles, 14 assists), Huckbody (30 solo tackles, 26 assists), Gavin Becker (26 solo tackles, three interceptions), Babler (24 solo tackles, 12 assists, three fumble recoveries), Austin Becker (16 solo tackles, three interceptions) and Griffin Chase (three interceptions).
Nevis finished third in the conference standings with a 6-2 record and ended with a 7-3 overall record.
