SECOND LURING CASE: Fargo man arrested on suspicion of meeting minor through Internet for sex
FARGO - Police arrested a Fargo man Sunday night on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 15 he met using a social Web site.
Patrick Wayne Schmitz, 23, 202 6th Ave. N., was arrested about 9:30 p.m. after police searched his residence and seized electronic devices, Fargo Police Sgt. Mark Lykken said.
According to Lykken, Schmitz is suspected of meeting a Fargo girl using social Web sites.
The two eventually began a sexual relationship that was discovered when the girl's mother checked her daughter's computer, according to Lykken.
"Unfortunately, I think it's going on a lot," Lykken said, adding that parents can help protect their children by making sure home computers are in areas where parents can monitor them.
He warned, however, that young people also use their phones and other devices to connect to the Internet.
Lykken said he is anticipated Schmitz will be charged in Cass County District Court some time today or Tuesday.
In another recent case, a 65-year-old from Zimmeran, Minn., was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a 14-year-old West Fargo girl he met on the Internet.
Robert Francis Blasey faces charges in Cass County District Court of gross sexual imposition and luring a minor by computer.
Blasey, who was arrested last week in Bismarck, N.D., is now in the Cass County Jail.
